LONGEST BUS RIDE - EVER! (The Number 14)

After 74 shows in 13 cities last fall, the cast and crew of The Number 14, Axis Theatre’s world famous show about life on public transit, hits the road on the second leg of its 20th Anniversary Tour.
First off is a flurry of dates through Ontario in the thick of winter, followed by springtime hops to Whitehorse (YT), Calgary (AB) and Kelowna (BC). The tour will ring the bell for its ‘last stop’ in the ever-charming city of Montreal, Quebec at Centaur Theatre under the helm of Artistic Director Roy Surette, who originally directed the play 20 years ago.
The Number 14 stars Chris Adams, Morgan Brayton, Stefano Giulianetti, Neil Minor, Tracey Power and Scott Walters (some shows with Sarah Rodgers) and is Stage Managed by Sarah Wallin and ASM Liam Kearns.

‘Camera Shy’, which premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival, has earned its way to an official cinema release January 18-24 at the Vancity Theatre (1181 Seymour St) in Vancouver, BC.

ANIMAL TALES: Summer fun in chemainus

Back by popular demand, Stefano Giulianetti joined by Ella Simon returns to the Chemainus Theatre Festival for ‘Animal Tales’. The Kidzplay Series play sees a novice naturalist (Simon) navigate through trails and tales in search of a rare and exotic bird (Giulianetti, of course!). Along the way, the chameleon-esque performances by the comic duo bring to life fairy tales from land, sky and sea.

The stories, adapted by Mark DuMez, include the Hans Christian Anderson fables ‘Two Crabs’ with Jamaican crabs dealing with school bullying issues and ‘The Butterfly’ with Bonita the vain butterfly searching for the perfect flower as well as the Aesop fables ‘The Mouse and the Lion’, and ‘The Jumping Contest’ with two vaudevillian bugs set to do each other in!

The two Vancouver-based performers last played together in the highly successful ‘Munsch Ado About Nothing’ in 2010 at the Chemainus Theatre, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. As part of the anniversary festivities, the two will also be teaching youth drama workshops at the summer camp.

WORLD PREMIERE: FRESCO

BellaLuna Productions presents the World Premiere of FRESCO by Lucia Frangione.

Directed by James Fagan Tait, this new play about the Italian-Canadians in Vancouver during WWII features versatile actor Stefano Giulianetti with an equally talented cast including Susan Bertoia, Marco Soriano and Mike Rinaldi.

Giulianetti plays the role of Gaetano, one of many Italians in Vancouver sent to internment camps as the government enacted the War Measures Act in 1940. As present-day Rosina (Bertoia) struggles over what to do with the family home in Strathcona, she uncovers generations of secrecy surrounding her grandfather's internment, but also discovers the spirit of resilience and achievement of BC's Italian-Canadian community.

FRESCO premieres at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby March 21-24 and continues March 28-31 at the Cultch Theatre in Vancouver. Intense Shakespeare. In Tents!

X-Fest is underway under the tents in Kamloops' Prince Charles Park with an exciting remount of “The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged)” featuring the trio of comedic actors Stefano Giulianetti, Dušan Magdolen and Kirk Smith and directed by Robin Nichol. The festival also features “Munsch Ado About Nothing” in which Giulianetti performed in last summer at the Chemainus Theatre Festival.   Though not performing in ‘Munsch’ this time around, Giulianetti notes “The two shows are a perfect match, they are both a foil and a mirror to each other – a Shakespearean troupe performing Robert Munsch, and us, a bunch of idiots, doing Shakespeare.”   The action packed ‘Compleat Wks’ crams all of the Bard’s work into 90 minutes of fun with Giulianetti portraying a whopping 22 characters, including eight female roles. By now, avid 'Much Ado' readers and TV viewers have likely all seen fun-loving actor Stefano Giulianetti grilling burgers and serving up a good time in the national TV commercial for Miracle Whip. The campaign with slogan "Stand Out with Miracle Whip" aptly features Giulianetti performing the role of 'Andy', an all-round great guy. While Giulianetti admits it wasn't much of an acting stretch, he'll take the mayo 'n run!

What better gift could theatregoers ask for than the Ghost of Christmas Present in A Christmas Carol performed by Stefano Giulianetti?!  The Chemainus Theatre Festival brings holiday cheer to Vancouver Island this Winter with the Charles Dickens classic and consummate actor Stefano Giulianetti has returned to the company for his third show this year (Strindberg’s Easter and Munsch Ado About Nothing) playing the benevolent spirit as well as Young Jacob Marley, Joe the Ragpicker and Jacob Marley's Ghost.

Adapted by Jeremy Tow and directed by Mark DuMez, the seasonal favorite about the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge (played by John Innes) unfolds with moral punctuations and poignant revelations culminating with Bob Cratchit’s (Neil Maffin) son Tiny Tim exclaiming “God bless us, every one!”  The talented cast is rounded out by Adam Bergquist, Ruth Brown, Hayley Carr, Nicholas Croome, Ian Farthing, Nicolas Gunn, Anna Hassard, Theodore Johnson, Erin Ormond, Parker Schmidt and Brian J. Sutton.

This summer, kids and parents alike are flocking to Vancouver Island for the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s production of Munsch Ado About Nothing.

This carnival ride through five popular Robert Munsch stories is performed by a Shakespearean troupe left with ‘nothing’ but a healthy imagination. Actor Stefano Giulianetti anchors the show in the role of William Shakespeare and follows with a dozen other characters including a crabby old lady, a softhearted trucker and - wait for it - A FART! The three-person cast, directed by Morgan McLeod and stage managed by Angela Frye, is rounded out by Ella Simon and Ian Harmon, both dishing out their fair share of hilarity. The show is reminiscent of The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr, Abridged (in which Giulianetti performed in Kamloops in 2008) with its roller coaster of characters, quick changes and endless fun!

Taking a turn for the dramatic, versatile actor Stefano Giulianetti proudly makes his debut performance at the Chemainus Theatre Festival in their production of Strindberg’s Easter. The play by August Strindberg, one of Sweden’s greatest playwrights - often credited alongside Henrik Ibsen as a developer of modern theatre - is complex and contradictory with a writing style that fuses naturalism and expressionism; a formidable task for any cast!
Easter is a powerful story rich with possibility and hope about a fallen family held in the hands of a vicious creditor. This classic drama takes place over the three days of Easter week and shows Elis Heist (Giulianetti) trying to hold the family together with his father in prison, his outcast sister absconded from an institution, one of his pupils overtaking him professionally and with the family’s biggest creditor moving in across the street.
Alongside Giulianetti the talented cast directed by Mark DuMez includes Georgina Beaty, Norma Bowen, Mackenzie Gordon, Samantha Madely and Neil Maffin.

This fall, Stefano earned a guest star role on “Always a Bridesmaid”, a new sitcom set in the Marry Well Boutique, a one-stop shop for discount weddings. Every week hapless wedding planner Mariel (Kirsten Van Ritzen) and her eclectic staff (Donnelly Rhodes, Veena Sood, Chelan Simmons, Vincent Tong, and John Emmet Tracy) do their best to cope with the demands of some pretty quirky clients, including Darren, an ill-mannered groom and his charming puppet Darryl. Playing the contrasting twin roles is versatile actor Stefano Giulianetti alongside Guest Stars Melanie Papalia (Bride) and Stephen Lobo. The Series is filmed before a live studio audience...

The hottest news this fall is that versatile performer and physical comedian Stefano Giulianetti is parking his Vespa scooter and getting on the Bus! But not just ANY bus, The Number 14! That’s right, Giulianetti will be joining the prestigious cast of Axis Theatre’s comic smash hit The Number 14! After a proven track record helping earn Axis awards and acclaim in The Emperor’s New Threads, he’s stepping into some big shoes taking roles previously performed by David Mackay and Brian Anderson (fortunately Stefano is a size 12!). This past summer, audiences in Kamloops, BC could hardly contain themselves as Project X Theatre Company presented Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) to oversold houses and glowing reviews as part of X Fest, their outdoor Shakespeare festival. The shows featured Vancouver- based performer Stefano Giulianetti, and we at ‘Much Ado’ ask: “Coincidence?” We think not. The crowd-drawing actor played Peter Quince and Moth in ‘Dream’ and 16 different characters in ‘Compleat Wks’ with mind-dizzying quick changes and hilarious interpretations of famous female Shakespearean characters including Juliet, Ophelia and Gertrude. After such a successful run, the consensus is that Giulianetti is definitely above average in the funny department. No stranger to Kamloops, Stefano also performed in Alice: A Wonderland and Dear Santa with Western Canada Theatre as well as several touring shows, and will hopefully be back again to entertain his awaiting fans.

A GRAND ADVENTURE

J.J.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit takes the stage as Carousel Theatre brings the classic novel to Granville Island this April. Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and a band of dwarves lead by Thorin Oakenshield (played by the fearless actor/superhero Stefano Giulianetti) embark on a perilous journey through Middle-Earth to reclaim a treasure trove of gold from the dragon, Smaug. On the way they face many obstacles and challenges as they meet Gollum and goblins and trolls (Oh my!).
The impressive cast includes Kristian Ayre (as the Hobbit), Craig Erickson, Stefano Giulianetti, Josue Laboucane, Ashley Liu, Tamara McCarthy, Parnelli Parnes and Luc Roderique and is directed by Jack Paterson. An epic staging not to be missed!
The Hobbit plays at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island April 11th to May 3rd, 2008.

Stefano Giulianetti and the cast of Axis Theatre’s The Emperor’s New Threads are putting the touring van in park for a while after logging many kilometers and an impressive list of accomplishments. Congratulations on behalf of all the staff at ‘Much Ado About Me’ to the cast and crew of Axis Theatre’s The Emperor’s New Threads on their 4 Jessie nominations including Outstanding Production, Design, Artistic Creation, and Significant Artistic Achievement for Ensemble Performance. The stellar cast includes performers Josue Laboucane, Tanya Podlozniuk, stage manager Dorothy Jenkins and of course the inimitable Stefano Giulianetti. Created by Melody Anderson and Peter Anderson, ‘Emperor’ showcases the cast with brilliant physical comedy, dazzling fashions and amazing masks. In case you missed the show, which played to over 18,000 children across BC this past January to March, fret not, as the talented cast will be picking up the tour again this fall (whew!). Hopefully they’ll have to make room in the van for a few Jessie statuettes!

As reward for a year’s work well done, many actors would consider taking time off for the traditional summer hiatus, but not actor Stefano Giulianetti. While many rush to put aside their craft, the modest and exceptionally talented Stefano Giulianetti is gearing up to further his seemingly endless skills at Antonio Fava’s International School of Commedia Dell’ Arte in Reggio Emilia, Italy. This on the heels of his recently completed tour with Kaleidoscope Theatre for The Boy Who Learned To Fly, where he was flying in the aerial silks, juggling, balancing and entertaining kids across the west coast with cast mates Trevor Hinton and Ming Hudson. Aware that his fans will miss him giulianetti assured us at muchado that he’ll be back in action this fall with Axis Theatre (see above).

MAMMA MIA!

To complete his hat trick in wedding vows, worldly actor Stefano Giulianetti has hit the big screen. After playing the role of the groom in both the long running comedy Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding and in the Lotus award winning commercial for the Alzheimer Society he is now marrying again in the Italian-Canadian feature film Almost America. The film chronicles a 1950’s immigrant Italian family living in the Canadian prairies. They escape poor life conditions in Italy only to find new challenges in a country where they don’t speak the language and don’t understand the culture. The all star Italian cast includes Sabrina Ferilli (Le Giraffe), Massimo Ghini (Tea with Mussolini) and of course, Stefano Giulianetti (The Water Game). Not only will this be Giulianetti’s Italian film debut, but it will be his first time performing in Italian. Since release dates have not yet been set, loyal Giulianetti fans from around the world will have to wait to see his fantastico! performance. In bocca al lupo Stefano! (Break a leg!).

Watch out for hip Canadian band Bocephus King in the next few months, because they just found the key to success…Stefano Giulianetti! He’s the lead in their upcoming music video “Mess of love” directed by Trevor Cornish. When most people think of Stefano Giulianetti, they think of his razor sharp wit and impeccable comedic timing, but the multi-faceted Vancouver performer has a few more aces up his sleeve. Over the next year, Stefano fans all over British Columbia will also get a chance to admire his brilliant honesty and charisma in an ad campaign for BC’s Alzheimer Society that will air on both television and radio. The commercial has Stefano Giulianetti in the role of groom, to which he is no stranger, having performed in Vancouver’s longest running smash hit comedy Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding innumerable times over the last three years (in a total of SEVEN different roles). But this time the charming young actor is pulling on heart strings, not the funny bone. Although this is not his first serious role –having explored that side in an episode of Millennium- it is his most worthwhile. Congratulations are in order: With the inauguration of his new theatre company "LUCKY 13 PRODUCTIONS", the multi-faceted Vancouver sensation Stefano Giulianetti has proven that he's more than just a pretty face. In his production of two John Lazarus Plays, "Babel Rap" and "The Illegal Playwriting Class", Giulianetti found himself producing, directing, building sets, selling advertising, acting (of course), and creating a media frenzy that had every paper in Vancouver after him. The shows ran for two weeks at the Vancouver Little Theatre, and co-starred Eufemia Fantetti and Darren Wilson. If you missed these shows, you definitely missed out!

Improviser extraordinaire Stefano Giulianetti is back at that zany theatre show Tony n' Tina's Wedding (which is enjoying its 5th season) and this time he may actually tie the knot! He's playing the "Italian Swing" which encompasses learning 4 new roles including Tony himself, and "swinging" in and out of the roles as needed. BIG HEADED FOR THE SCREEN!

That is to say, "Headed for the big screen". In case you haven't been reading your union mail-outs, another one of those huge budget independent feature films has hit Vancouver; and who better to cast as comic relief than the hillarious Stefano Giulianetti. The movie is The Water Game, directed by John Bolton, and the part calls for Stefano to venture into the realm of a thick-headed loser…a real stretch! With a script that called for lines like: "Yeah. We're graduated" and a stunt where he had to jump off the 10 Metre diving board at UBC simultaneously with fellow actor Andrew Morisson, both his talents and fears were put to the test. The jury agrees, Stefano graduated with honours. While the movie has not yet been sold, the producers are confident that the second George Lucas sees Stefano's dailys, he'll be begging to get on board!

STEFANO TO TOUR LIKE IT WAS 1999

According to reliable sources, a high profile, high budget Francophone touring company was rumored to have offered a part to gifted Vancouver actor, Stefano Giulianetti. The part, apparently, had already been offered to him a year ago after a brilliant audition but the busy actor had to turn it down due to prior engagements. While the part calls for a young teenage boy, and Stefano has been known mostly for his work in older age groups, he said he would relish the opportunity to “get back to my roots, sharpen my crayons” and “re-acquaint myself with my inner child”. When asked how his French skills were, Stefano simply replied “Oui” …the sign of a true artiste. Although we cannot divulge the Theatre Company’s name at this time (heh-heghm-Theatre la Seizieme), we do know that the tour will be an extensive one, spanning as far as Ontario and the Yukon from February to early April. NEW AGENT, NEW START FOR GIULIANETTI

As the traditional summer hiatus approaches, many actors are either taking time off as reward for a year’s work well done, or taking time off to skip out on their taxes. But while many rush to put aside their craft, the young and exceptionally talented Vancouver actor Stefano Giulianetti is gearing up to make a fresh start.
While last year can be counted as a resounding success for the accomplished actor, who earned credits as a Latin fugitive on the TV series Millennium, as a Mountain Patrolman in two Kokanee Beer commercials, as well as for Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding and a production at the Chan Centre, Giulianetti says he is determined to make ’98 even better yet.
With newly acquired agent Connie Hardie, auditioning rates will no doubt be on the rise, especially after the second quarter of the year, when Giulianetti's head shots, taken by well-known photographer Nicholas Seiflo, will be available.
